Committee Co-Chairs

Connie Chang

Born and raised in Vancouver, Connie joined YES! in 2011 in hopes of meeting an amazing group of women, while also fundraising for an extremely worthy cause. Little did she know that YES! and Dress for Success Vancouver would become driving forces in both her personal and professional life, having made lifelong friends and business connections over the past five years.

With a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature and History from UBC, and a Diploma of Technology in Marketing Management – Entrepreneurship from BCIT, Connie founded Type C Consulting, a full-service digital communications and consulting agency, in 2013. Over the past four years, Type C has worked with over a hundred clients on projects ranging from web development and graphic design to communications strategies and digital analytics. One of the firm’s guiding principles is that business can be a force for good, and that has informed Connie’s continued support of Dress for Success Vancouver through her work with YES!, as well as her own company.

When she isn’t in front of a computer, you’ll find Connie working out at Kondi Fitness, cheering on the Canucks and Jays, or searching for the next perfect meal with close friends.

Vivian Chan

Always looking for ways to give back to her community, Vivian jumped at the chance to join YES! Vancouver in 2010. With a background in marketing and events and a love for volunteering, she knew it would be a great fit for her. After taking a short hiatus, she is excited to be back on the committee, co-leading the memberships team, to raise more awareness and funds for Dress for Success.

As Manager, National Accelerator Operations at Wavefront, she works with Canadian tech companies in the wireless industry. You’ll find her running around their Vancouver HQ and accelerator/coworking space or travelling around Canada to work with partners. She also moonlights as the Community Manager, both online via social media or in person at various events, promoting Wavefront’s programs and services and supporting the startups.

When she’s not attending an industry event, you’ll find her out with friends, at a live music show, on the hunt for good wine/beer and ice cream or becoming pals with some random dog she’s just met.

After getting her BSc from UVic, she decided non-profit fundraising was how she wanted to make her stamp on the world, particularly in events. She worked at the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Victoria as their signature event lead, and now works for St. John Ambulance in Vancouver leading the development of their new fundraising platform. When she isn’t volunteering, you can find her at Equinox trying the latest workout class, then hydrating with a glass of wine with friends afterwards.

Communications Committee

Zafira Rajan

Born in Canada and raised in Kenya, Zafira joined YES! in 2014 for a chance to meet dynamic women and experience more of what Vancouver has to offer after graduating from UBC. She is excited to bring her experience in content strategy and social media management to the team whilst supporting a great cause.

Zafira splits her time between her role as a Marketing & Communications Coordinator at UBC Vantage College and running her own company, where she designs communications strategies for business and actively takes on the voices of their social media accounts.

When she isn’t writing or curled up with a book, you can find her at the barre or spin bike, scouring the best brunch or spending time with close friends.

Corina Santema

Communications Coordinator

Designing Positive Human Experience is the name of the game for Corina. Whether that’s writing fun copy, creating an empowering event environment or telling an awful dad joke, her goal is to always put a smile on your face.

She graduated from The University of British Columbia in 2015 with a BSc in Food, Nutrition and Health. Throughout that time at UBC she sprinkled plentiful amounts of Entrepreneurship, Event Planning and Community Building into every involvement she had. Driven by creating inclusive and action-oriented connections of people and ideas, she’s always on the hunt for the next challenge. Alongside close friends, she started The Calendar, a student-led organization, to improve student spirit and involvement on the UBC campus. After UBC, in true “eat pray love” fashion, she packed her bags for a few months of solo backpacking through Europe.

Upon returning, she worked for both Lululemon and Hootsuite to contribute to the Wellness, Marketing and Technology spaces. Now as a Customer Success Associate at Hootsuite, and having just finished up her Digital Marketing Certification at RED Academy, she’s thrilled to be joining the other ladies of YES! Vancouver’s Communication Team.

When Corina isn’t living the #hootsuitelife and drafting up new business plan ideas, you can find her running around the city (literally), enjoying a local craft beer among fab friends, or (her favourite) taking advantage of a sunny outdoor napping spot for the afternoon. At the next event please be sure to say hey

Joyce Li

Social Media Coordinator

Joyce graduated from UBC in 2016 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing. While attending university, she took a year off to jumpstart her career and moved to Toronto to work on the Brand Marketing team at RBC, supporting the growth of all enterprise sponsorship platforms and campaigns. Joyce was also involved in various student organizations including running a national entrepreneurship conference, organizing a mentorship program, and planning community events for charity.

Shortly after UBC, she landed at Yellow Pages Group in a digital marketing and paid search role, and is now currently working at Hootsuite as a Field Marketing Specialist supporting the North America market. Joyce is excited to bring her diverse experience to the YES! Communications team and support a great cause.

When Joyce isn’t working, you can find her on a spin bike, doing yoga, or enjoying a delicious craft beer.
